SMS Price Change: 5p per Message from 1 September 2026

From 1 September 2026, the cost of SMS messages sent through Redbox will increase from 4p to 5p per message +VAT.

This applies to both SMS Marketing and SMS Alerts.

Why the price is changing

Our SMS provider, AWS, has increased its pricing. SMS is a pass-through cost for us: every message you send is a message we pay a supplier to deliver. We’ve absorbed the increase where we can, but we need to update our SMS pricing to keep the service running reliably.

What’s changing

The new rate of 5p applies to every SMS sent on or after 1 September 2026, across both message types:

  • SMS Marketing — campaigns and promotional messages you send to your customers.
  • SMS Alerts — transactional and status messages such as order confirmations and updates.

Messages sent before 1 September 2026 are charged at the current rate. The new rate applies automatically from that date, so there’s nothing you need to switch on.

What this means for you

If you send a high volume of SMS, it’s worth reviewing how you use each message type before 1 September:

  • Check which SMS Alerts are essential, e.g. “Pending Orders” on specific outlets.
  • Review marketing segments when using SMS Marketing so you’re only paying for messages that earn their place.
