Does anyone use SMS marketing through the Redbox system. I’m interested to hear your thoughts. I was just looking at it to test it out. I thought 160 would be the character limit as this is a standard text message limit but it seems to cut off at 77. This is a text only message with no emojis however it does have commas ect.
My next question is, what kind of messages can we send with a 77 character limit?
We always say everything is an experiment. The character limit is due to the inclusion of a URL for opting out of messages, as the service doesn’t support user replies. This is similar to the “text STOP” option you might see elsewhere, which prevents future marketing messages.
Currently, the best use case seems to be for customer reactivation or targeting users who don’t have the app to receive push notifications. You can create a segment specifically for these users and target them with an SMS campaign.
We acknowledge that the character limit is challenging, and it’s crucial to avoid splitting messages into multiple texts to be economical.
Never realised we could do a segment for those that do not have the app on their phones these days. Good to know; I will try and look at this this evening.
